The most expensive thing we can do is nothing

Here is an interesting quote taken from an open letter written by 60 leading economists to the Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger.
We urge you to accelerate climate action policies that will demonstrate political leadership and create economic opportunities in California. The most expensive thing we can do is nothing.

  1. This is a great sign. There has been a strong tendency for economists to tout continued growth for the sake of profits without factoring in how this ultimately impinges on the environment. Now this sounds like some are coming around to recognizing that the economy is a part of the ecosystem, and as such must take measures to act sustainably. One of the major books on this is Herman Daly's Beyond Growth. I've been reading it recently and think it has a lot of merit.
